  1. why didn’t you take the normal reaction from the step and the ground?

    • At the edge of the step, that point is the pivot. As the line of action of normal reaction force passes through the pivot, there is no perpendicular distance, so no moment.
      When is drum is just lifted from ground, it is no longer touching the ground, hence no normal reaction force.
